A different perspective on health and longevity
For more than two decades, I’ve dedicated my career to understanding how the human body works and helping people improve their health. As a functional medicine practitioner, educator and lifelong athlete, I’ve explored the science of nutrition, metabolism, hormones, chronic disease and longevity — and embraced many of the sophisticated tools and interventions that promise better health.
But over the years, something became increasingly clear. Some of the most health-conscious people I encountered were also among the most overwhelmed. They were investing enormous amounts of time, energy and money into supplements, specialty testing and complicated protocols, often while struggling with the very foundations of health: nourishing food, restorative sleep, regular movement, meaningful relationships and a sense of purpose.
I began to recognize that the pursuit of better health can sometimes become an obstacle to actually living well.
That realization didn’t lead me to abandon functional medicine. It led me to practice it more thoughtfully. I still believe in understanding the whole person, looking for patterns, connecting the dots, and using sophisticated testing when it can provide meaningful answers. But I’ve learned that the most effective approach isn’t necessarily the most complicated one.
Today, my philosophy is simple: Use science wisely. Focus on what matters. And remember that the purpose of good health is to support a life worth living.
It’s this perspective that inspired my work as co-author of The Longevity Trap and continues to shape the care I provide at Thriveology Health.
